Coats Supports Amendment to Repeal Obamacare
WASHINGTON, DC – Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today issued the following statement after voting for an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2014 Senate Budget Resolution that would repeal Obamacare:
“By forcing individuals to buy health insurance, imposing harmful regulations and raising taxes, Obamacare is stifling our economy and burdening Hoosier families,” said Coats. “I am committed to repealing Obamacare and replacing it with a health care system that puts patients first, increases the quality of care and decreases costs.”
Introduced by Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), the amendment would create a deficit neutral reserve fund to allow for 1) repeal of the health care law and 2) adoption of step-by-step, patient-centered reforms that would improve health outcomes, reduce health care costs and promote economic growth. The amendment failed 45 to 54.
Since his return to the Senate, Coats has consistently supported a repeal of the health care law passed in 2010. Coats has voted in favor of a full repeal, defunding the law and stripping away some of its most damaging provisions.
